20) Nihi Sumba – Sumba Island
Nihi Sumba is a fancy resort located on a large piece of land in a jungle on the western coast of Sumba Island in Indonesia. It’s far away from popular places like Komodo National Park and Bali. The resort has 27 villas that are designed like traditional Sumbanese buildings, and they sit on hills above a private beach known for a famous surfing spot called Occyโs Left.
Rustic luxury is about blending a simple lifestyle with high-end comfort. Nihi Sumba started as a basic surf shack but now offers a luxurious experience in a remote area. The villas have private pools, indoor/outdoor bathrooms, and personal hosts (also called butlers). The resort has a spa with open-air treatment rooms, a chocolate factory, a beachfront pool, and an organic garden that supplies food for the three restaurants.
Nihi Sumba is committed to being eco-friendly, caring for the environment, marine life, and Sumbanese culture. They practice organic gardening, composting, water recycling, have a turtle hatchery, and engage in community programs. Guests can join in these activities too.
When it comes to food and drinks, the resort provides complimentary mini bars and private dinners. There are also three venues: Nio Beach Club for casual food, Boathouse Bar for snacks and drinks, and Ombak, the main restaurant offering Indonesian and western dishes. The atmosphere is friendly and relaxed, encouraging mingling among guests.
